Hows it looking for the 49ers?

The 49ers have been one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, but for the last few years it has been extremely hard to watch to say the least. Do you see them making any progress this year? They are in one of the weakest divisions so the playoffs are not entirely out of the question...

Hows it looking for the 49ers?
The same way its always looked..............................BAD.
Reply:They've improved greatly on the offensive side of the ball, but I don't think they will make the playoffs, and the reason why can be summed up into two words:Alex Smith. The experiment with Alex Smith has failed and they should move on to another QB that can help them.I see them ending up 6-10 or 7-9 at the very best!
Reply:as good as the 49ers looked in the 80's and early 90's they look terrible in the 00's

missing on the alex smith and the te vernon davis (name?)first round draft picks set the team back. look how long it took the chargers to rebound after the ryan leaf draft bust. the 49'ers have 2 bright spots frank gore and patrick willis after that the team will struggle. 5 wins would be a best case scenario. 3 or 4 is more realistic at least you will get a high pick next year since you didnt trade it away like last year.

Alex smith is not going to bust out he is the next chad pennington and not the good pennington he is the pennington afterall the shoulder surgeries. smith does not have the arm strength to be a top nfl qb
Reply:I expect the 49rs to make the playoffs and maybe win their first game before suffering a resounding thrashing by the Cowboys! Their division is weak and I expect it to be even weaker....Probably the worst division in football. The 49rs have improved lately and I think this will be a breakout year for smith as he will learn to utilize the 9rs surprisingly strong running game.
Reply:Not so fast the NFC West is one of the hardest divisions to win if you aren't the Seahawks.... Seriouslly, the Seahawks look great this year. 13-3 is a possibility.... San Fran has a great RB corps. Pretty good offensive line. But the WR's are Ike Bruce and Arnaz Battle.... That's terrible.... Vernon Davis is the only great target, and he isn't even proven yet.... The defense has to perform this year or Nolan is done. Alex Smith holds the key to the offense, and he is an absolute bust.... This year is his last as starter. They will struggle to move the ball, and therefore the defense will be put in bad positions, which means the truly great players on both sides will start to get angry with managment, coaching, teammates, whoever.... This year is going to be rough for the 49ers.... 4-12.
Reply:How's it looking for the 49ers??? They're probably gonna look as good as your avatar. Dr. Dork needs to get rid of that team, meaning selling it to some other owner. Dr. Dork should then move to Pakistan. The world will be at peace again.
Reply:NOT good at all. maybe the year after next year?
Reply:They are making progress. The will have one of the toughest D's in football. If they could get a passing attack going they would be a playoff caliber team. If they could pass teams would stop stacking the box and Gore could get some breaks.

The offense has to get better for anything to happen and that may mean spending some dough for a new QB, Smith hasn't shown that he can play.
Reply:They will be better than last year, but still have holes to fill, especially the lines. Look for about a 7-9 or 8-8 record. They are moving in the right direction. They need consistency at the coaching level to develop their young players including Alex Smith.
Reply:It looks no different than the last couple of years, sorry.
Reply:This year the 49ers have a tough Scheduele. This is how I think they are going to do.

Looks like another bad year because the 49ers are are going 7-9
Reply:almost everyone has hit the nail on the head with this one...the 49ers problems lie with alex smith.

but they do not need to go out and spend dough on a new QB...from what i've seen (and i live in the bay, so i've seen alot) they have a promising young QB already by the name of shaun hill (i think thats his name). this dude started two games late in the season last year, won them both. start him, and get rid of smith/get what you can for him.

frank gore is a beast, but he's been injury prone lately because he has to carry the load all by himself. nothing is wrong with vernon davis, he just has nobody to pass him the ball. i think they brought in isaac bruce as well, so the offense is decent...not great, but decent.

the defense is awesome. patrick willis is the future of the LB position. drafting balmer wa a good move as well.

overall, playoffs wont happen....but they are making progress. just gotta change that QB
Reply:Only the leader of that division will be going to the playoffs, and that would be Seattle. S.F. is going to struggle again this season.
