Pekin duck looses it's ballance?

My wife purchased three crested pekin ducks three weeks ago. Last week one of the ducks had trouble trying to stand and would topple over. After awhile it would be alright again but it's legs would shake.

Does anyone know why this happens

Pekin duck looses it's ballance?
It could be like what Rabbits get...they get this ear infection that causes them to fall over and then if it doesnt go away it can cause them to lose controll of their body and they'll be shaking and have muscle spazums and their eyes would roll to the back of their head and it can spread to their brain and kill them. Well thats just rabbits dunno about ducks...all i no is that i want one xP
Reply:it would be good to get them all examined by an avian vet. hard to say why but something is definitely wrong with the bird. might be a good idea to get them all screened for the same problem.

best wishes!!! :)
Reply:Crested ducks are notorious for having neurological disorders. I would get him/her in to see an avian vet asap.

What are they being fed? If they are not being fed the proper duck feed, that will also cause problems of this nature. Niacin is very important to waterfowl so perhaps some niacin drops in the water will help along with making sure they get plenty of sunshine and the right amount of calcium and vit. D3.

If they are young, they should be on duck starter and duck grower when they are a little older. I use Mazuri Waterfowl Maintanence for mine. If they are ducklings, they should be on Mazuri Waterfowl starter. Purina also make a decent duck feed. It is Purina duck chow. They will have to be on the starter feed then switch them to grower after about 18 weeks.

Get him in to see an avian vet and put some niacin drops into his water. You may want to consider joining PDRU group on yahoo for pet duck owners! One of our members is a 30 year waterfowl expert and researcher. He knows everything and can help you with any questions. We have several very knowledgeable people there.

Good luck!
