I always thought "billingual" meant one can speak one language with the same skill as another ie like a native speaker.
I find when it comes to EFLS (English as a first language speakers) they are judged harsher than those who speak other languages first.
Example, my former roomate asked me what a pundit was (she's lived in the US for 20 years and her job title has the word billingual in it) If she were truly BILLINGUAL she wouldn't have to ask me. She also questioned my use of the word "gore". She thought I was referring to the inventor of the internet, Al Gore(!) and yes you smart asses I know he didn't really invent the internet.
I know English is a hard language to learn but so are other languages to some EFLS.
Billingual what does it REALLY mean?
Well, in today's crazy world...billingual really means "multiple", in my opinion. I've seen some jobs that pay something crazily low like $8 or $10 an hour, and yet want Customer Service and at least one other language. I've seen multiple languages required, though. This world wants a lot of work, for a little bit of pay...
