Is it okay to freeze my lettuce?

....or is it a bad thing since lettuce is mainly composed of water? I'm just tired of my lettuce always going bad on me so soon.

Is it okay to freeze my lettuce?
No way! I've accidently had my fridge set too cold and it ruined my lettuce. Take a small piece and test it in the freezer. I seem to waste lettuce too...gotta eat more salads!
Reply:lettuce does not freeze at all.
Reply:no way
Reply:If you freeze lettuce, which is mostly water, the cells will form ice crystals and expand, breaking the cell walls. When it defrosts, it will be limp and horrible. However, there are some recipes out there for lettuce soup, which you could make and then freeze. You could probably defrost frozen lettuce and make soup with it, too, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Reply:lettuce does ot do good in the freezzer.. just buy the small bags of lettuce for a saller portion .. it will waste less. .. but you can put your lettuce in a ziplock bag and put a damp paper toowel and wrap it up in it. then put all in the bag and close tightly .. this will help keep it longer.. hope this helps..
Reply:Lettuce will die instantly when frozen. It turns into mush.

See if you can find a lettuce keeper . They are plastic, a little larger than a big head of lettuce, and have a holding spike at the bottom. Lettuce will stay good for a week in one.
