Is it possible to be depressed for small reasons?

What i mean is I'm not sure if I am depressed. I feel really low and I've hurt myself and all that stuff but I can't pinpoint anything that is really causing this. There is normally fighting at my house, I have trouble talking to friends, people joke around with me at school (and i know they are jokes), my dad died two years ago, I'm self concsious, etc. I don't know if it is depression or something else.

Is it possible to be depressed for small reasons?
you could have clinical depression, and/or you're just really sensitive. i'm the exact way.
Reply:If you were "Depressesd", you wouldn't have the energy or attentiveness to author this question. You are simply sad, and like the prophet says, "This too shall pass".
Reply:You can easily feel depressed over absolutely nothing. Depression is caused by a slight chemical imbalance in your brain, so no matter how good somebody has it, they can still be depressed sometimes. Best thing to do is just to wait or try to find a way to deal with it, but if it never improves you might want to look into medication.
Reply:when you get depressed over nothing, it means you are probably depressed

but say if you got depressed because you dad died jsut a few weeks ago it wouldnt be called depression because of something that just happened in your life

i would say that you sound depressed, talk to somebody at school like a teacher or guidence counselor that you trust or even an adult at home that can set you up with professional help

good luck!
Reply:Don't stress it bud, we all fall into the blues sometimes. Shake it off, get a smile back on your face, and concentrate on the positive things in your life.
Reply:Depression is a serious thing, and sometimes people overuse it in their lives. I think that maybe you're just going through a tough time in your life. It is difficult to say, but if this persists for another while then maybe you should get a check-up. It may wear off as time passes by yet you can never be too sure.

I say you should try to think positive everyday. Every morning wake up, and think of at least one thing you are grateful for. At least one, and you can't say there is nothing to be grateful for. Smile, and laugh more often. Don't take things too seriously or personally. If you really put your mind to it, trust me you will achieve it -- it being "happiness". The fighting at your house may in fact affect you however maybe you can try to resolve the issues, by talking and not yelling or arguing. It works, really. And with your friends, maybe you can explain to them how you've been feeling lately and they in turn can help you! Just be sure not to tell everyone your life story.

Lastly, you mention school so I presume you're still in high school? So as a last though, just trust in yourself and believe me when I say things will brighten up. You're still young and have your whole life ahead of you. Just be strong and fight this sadness, because I doubt it is a serious illness of depression.

Good luck buddy! Keep your head up!
