My husband and I want to move back East before the baby is born, but we are afraid for me to fly. I once had a bad experience flying while I was on my period, scares me to fly while pregnant, but at the same time I don't think I'd be very comfortable and it might be worse to drive. What do you think?
Is it safe to fly while pregnant? What would be the best way to travel across the country?
it is fine to fly while pregnant..as long as its not close to your due date..an its best to wear pressure socks so your feet dont swell...
i flew when i was 6mths with my first and i have flown four times with my current pregnancy
Reply:Well first of all...how far along are you and how far are you going?
Reply:It's totally safe up until a certain point. I'm 37 weeks along and I had to fly to Ohio to have my baby. The doctors have to approve you in the last month and it's risky that you'll go into labor. I felt very sick on the desent especially but baby is fine. 2nd trimester is the best time to fly and driving definitely sucks! I drove from Ohio to WA at 5 weeks along and that was hell! Talk to the doc and decide depending on how far along you are and if you have any complications.
Reply:Talk to your doctor about this and your overall condition.
Regardless of how you decide to travel, be sure to limit the time the you spend sitting. You should take breaks every 2 hours to stand and stretch and walk.
The sources have some advice. The tips about altitude deal with being in the mountains, not in a pressurized airplane.
Reply:I think your arms would get awfully tired
Reply:ask your doctor to be sure for your specific case. I know you're not supposed to fly during your third trimester
Reply:it is up to a certain point in your pregnancy. your best bet would be to talk to your doctor and find out... i know my mom wasn't allowed to after 6 or 7 months in her pregnancy, but she was also going on vacation to Mexico... so it depends on why you need to fly and how far along you are...
