Does anyone have Borderline Personality Disorder? How has it affected you?

I've been diagnosed with it. All the signs do fit me but I wonder if it is the right diagnosis with just one opinion.

Reply:i have had borderline personality disorder for over 25yrs. the thing that gets to me the most is the fear of being alone. (fear of abandonment) but as soon as i get someone close to me i push them away as hard as i can...then in a day or two beg on hands and knees for their return. another classic symptom that i do is...i see everything in black and white, all or nothing. example: its either the best day of my life or it is the worst day of my life. there is no OK day for me. example: you either love me all the way, or you don't love me at all! also when angry i will get in my car and drive as fast and recklessly as i can. it releases endorphins and makes me feel better. i have tried to commit suicide 3 times. (was on the wrong medications)

having this disorder is hard on my family and fiance. but they show tons of support and are there for me. i am on tons of medication and i am very med compliant. i have been in treatment for over 16yrs.

please know that you can live with this disorder and not the disorder living you! you have to seek treatment (in my opinion) and try to learn as much as you can about the disorder. if you feel you need a second opinion seek one. its your right to do so.

i have a site that may help you...its about borderline personality disorder.

hope this was of some help! i wish you all the best! email me anytime if you wish!
Reply:I have this awful disorder. It has made my life full of suffering because I don't know how to be easy with myself. I have issues problem solving, handling my over whelming emotions and regulating them.

I suffered severly for years until I got into DBT. It took me along time to get in to the class. I practice the skills all the time and keep a diary card to over with my therapist. This is a way to pin point trouble areas for me.

From what I understand, BPD is caused from a very sensitive nature, early trauma and an invalidating childhood.

Sucks for me, but is my reality. I just thank God for DBT.
Reply:I was officially diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder a few years back, but I disagreed with the diagnosis for a long time, I still do to a degree, even though the symptoms and descriptions do tend to fit. How if effects me, well I get strong bouts of self loathing, and tend to self harm a lot to try to relieve the torment I feel inside, which comes in cycles.
