My computer monitor wont display the colour red. i bang it and it comes back for like a minute then goes again

the screen just loks so dark and its very annoying without the colour red being shown. sometimes if you move the monitor the colour comes back again but disappears soon after. it seems to me as if a cable isnt plugged in properlly but ive already tried putting them all in properly. anythign else i can do??

I hate to say it, but I think it's time to upgrade. If you have to "bang it", it's time to put it out to pasture.
Reply:see this is the picture tube problem

what you must do is contact your manufacturer and have the picture tube replaced
Reply:Time to start shopping for a new monitor. Hey it's a holiday weekend there's bound to be a memorial day blowout sale somewhere.
Reply:If you can make the color come back by moving the cable there is a wire broken inside it or in the connector, the latter can be fixed. If bumping the monitor case makes it come on temporarily then most likely there is a bad solder joint on the circuit board. That can be fixed too, by a competent electronics technician.

Or look on Craigslist.org for a good used one. They are usually cheap there.
Reply:you could hire someone to stand there and hit it.

But seriously i had a monitor go that way. probably time for a new one. but before you do make sure its your monitor, wiggly slightly the cord where it attached to the PC. A friend of mine once had a vid card come slightly loose and had (not exact) close to the same monitor prob.

i would suggest degaussing, but since you hit it and it changes probably not the the prob. You can normally find a relatively cheap monitor at any small computer store either new or refurbished.
