HELP! How long of a walk is it through the claustrophobic, tight part of the tunnel on Diamond Head?

I see pics on flickr.com showing a large tunnel with a road through it---that's do-able. But, I also see a very tight, narrow, dark tunnel with a rope for people to hang onto as they walk through. It looks like something I wouldn't want to do for more than 5 minutes. How long does that tight space take to get through????

About five minutes, which can seem like forever if you are claustrophobic or scared of the dark. If you slow down because you are scared, it does take you longer.

I heard they were going to light that tunnel.
Reply:It took me 2 minutes to walk through. Also, there are lights in it.
Reply:It depends on how fast you walk.

The tunnel is actually not that tight. The reason for the rope is so that people don't get turned around in the darkness after coming in from the bright sunlight. There are low voltage lights in the tunnel and if you use a flashlight, you should be able to see what you're walking.

Even if you walk really slowly, the tunnel shouldn't take you much longer than a couple of minutes to walk through. Keep in mind that there is only one way up and down so if you go through it on the way up, you'll have to go through it on the way down.

Hope that helps you......good luck on the hike and happy travels!
Reply:It's been a long time since I have gone, but it was quick. Nowhere near 5 minutes.
